What may have happened, as this inevitably happens from time to time, is that a user was in the process of releasing a back order and then for some reason they had a network problem or some computer problem and lost their connection.
In that case the items on back order will have a yellow 'pin' next to them under the "H" column. Scroll to the "H" column if you don't see it on screen or add it to your screen if you don't have it (right click on grid, then select Column Properties).
Click on the yellow pin to 'unlock' the item so it can be released again from back order.
