I want to move a bunch of old stock items to a separate file because we no longer deal with that supplier. We have Zero stock on hand, there maybe credits pending. But I cant move the stock items because the system says there are active transactions. How do I find those transactions?

Active transactions typically mean the item is on order or back order, or on a purchase order. You would check the activity tab for that item (under Transactions vertical tab). However, the system is really checking that those related quantity fields on the stock item are not zero.
