    Implementing Multi-locations

Are we able to use the multi-location function for our stock under the version we are on.

If so, am I reading it right that when we set this up and activate it in installation workshop, do all stock items need a location before any invoicing etc. can be done in the system. If so, are we able to allocate the the locations to stock before we activate in installation workshop.

Yes you can activate multi-location stock on all versions of CAPITAL.

You don't need to assign a location code to your stock before you activate the feature, but you can if you wish.

Location "blank" is treated by the system as a valid location.

Ideally you don't want to get into a situation where users can mix stock items from different locations onto a single transaction, because this will be difficult to reconcile.

However, if you restrict transactions right away to allowing one location only, older transactions entered in the system prior to the switch to multi-location will not be accessible, as the location of the stock item will no longer match the location of the transaction. (This assumes you assigned all your stock to particular location(s) )

    So:

It is a good idea to use the Toolbox|Stock Location Maintenance utility to assign all your stock to a location.

Then under Install|Stock|General Options, tick: "Multi-Location Stock" and "Permit Multi-Locations Per Transaction". And leave "Permit Multi-Locations Per Transaction" ticked until you are sure you no longer need to edit older transactions.
