    spooler printing problems

    by anant » Wed Jul 18, 2007 2:33 pm

Running Version: 7.41, Build: 10004-356g3-SL0 (7.41g) on a network running sb server. 3 pcs working off the server. 1pc can print/fax/email no probs. 2nd pc nothing at all (printing), 3rd pc print only no fax/email.

2nd pc when printing comes up with a spooler error most times. Dont remember words exactly but msg says corrupted spooler. We also have inherited 5-6 different spoolers to choose from. Can the corruption be fixed? can the unwanted spoolers be deleted?
    Thanks

You can delete any spooler file that has become corrupted (or all of them). Spooler files typically have the format:

    S0000001.SPL
    S0000001.CDX

It's important that you delete both files. Spoolers can have other names such as JOHN.SPL/JOHN.CDX. But they always have the extension .SPL and an accompanying file ending in .CDX.

When Visual Builder is restarted, and the spooler file is not found, the application will create a new spooler file automatically.

If one computer on your network can fax/email but the other can't this could be because either the email has not been configured on that PC or the email/faxing has been turned off.

To configure Email start Installation Workshop (found on Special menu of CAPITAL), and select Install|Email Services.

Make sure you have the same settings here on the computer that is not working as the one that is working. Also press the 'TEST' button to make sure that your basic emailing is working, and is not being blocked by some security system installed on your PC.

The second thing to check is Install|Electronic Document Exchange.

Under Queue Control, assuming you have broadband, make sure that 'Send Immediately' is selected. If this setting is set to 'Never' then emails and/or faxes will just queue up and will never be sent out.
