We pretty much had a working version of this in a test environment using VB 7.4 Enhanced, based on your VB Help tutorial for labels and using the Return StockDescription() formula to pull in the extended item description. Before we implement this in our new live system, could you advise on the following:

The Label Tutorial recommends that we use the field Stock->Name2 to hold the barcode number. We have always used this field to hold our supplier's product code and we use this extensively when purchasing. To get around this when developing the barcode labels, we added a new field Staux000->Barcode to our test database to hold the EAN-13 barcode number and this seemed to work fine. Can you see any problems with doing the same in the new system - or is there a better way?
