The problem could be related to your antivirus software which may be scanning very large DBF files each time they are opened. Most antivirus packages let you select which files not to scan. You should exclude .DBF and .CDX files from scanning.
Another possibility is that you may have a large number of deleted records in your files. Try to perform a Database Maintenance in both your DOS 'CAPITAL Office' package and in your 'CAPITAL GL Controller' package if you operate the GL. It is important that you run the maintenance procedure in both programs.
