What can cause the back order quantity field to go into a negative value?

Typically this happens when users 'adjust' the back order field directly in some abitrary fashion. Especially if CAPITAL's field level locking has not been set-up to prevent users from changing the value of that field.

Later on, same user or someone else, deletes some items sitting in the Back Order Control Centre, or edits a sales order and changes the quantities.

Back order quantity may then go into negative.

To fix things my suggestions are:

    1. When users have logged out during the end of the day, run a Stock Recalculation (remember in CAPITAL 7.4 this is now in INSTALLATION Workshop, under Diagnose|Stock Recalculate). This will place the correct quantities in the back order field as per what's actually on back order again.

    2. I'd recommend you put the fields "On Order", "Back Order", and "Allocated" to "always locked" using the Screen Builder. It's generally not a good idea to allow end-users to directly have access to those field values for adjustment purposes. CAPITAL will maintain and adjustment such fields automatically anyway, when required.
